Yeah I know, a Harvard ‘medical sociologist’ went even further by saying happiness is contagious. “You would think that your emotional state would depend on your own choices and actions and experience,” said Nicholas A. Christakis, a medical sociologist at Harvard University who helped conduct the study published online today by BMJ, a British medical journal. “But it also depends on the choices and actions and experiences of other people, including people to whom you are not directly connected. Nice! So regarding that last bit… There are actually scientific findings to back that up. Some quotes from the abstract:

“People who are surrounded by many happy people and those who are central in the network are more likely to become happy in the future. ”

“A friend who lives within a mile (about 1.6 km) and who becomes happy increases the probability that a person is happy by 25% (95% confidence interval 1% to 57%).”

“People’s happiness depends on the happiness of others with whom they are connected. This provides further justification for seeing happiness, like health, as a collective phenomenon.”

democratizing organizations definitely sounds like a good idea. this requires broad (both topic and society wise) education in alternative modes of organization; that is, alternative modes of relating/connecting the different pieces of organizations/society. that’s far too subversive a topic to be spread by today’s entrenched power structures. Although, subversive ideas have been known to spread in the past…

I think a lot of you missed a key point. He acknowledges that people will still always fight and war with each other, we are animals after all. However the key vital point is, if we take away these mass weapons of destruction (and i’m not just talking about Nuclear weapons) the people who want to fight will only harm themselves, instead of innocent people trying to live there lives in peace. I also don’t think it’s fair to always pass the blame and responsibility onto the person using the gun. What about when the human being pulling the trigger is a 10 year old boy pepped up on drugs, Fighting a war that he has no comprehension of.
I for one am all for the abolishment of weapons.
